Volumes and Voids

My plein air study of Colorado mesas and plains in 2020-21 was a period of reflection on color, light, and and the nature of abstraction. These works play with volumes and voids, taking risks within color contrasts and a limited color palette.

I enjoyed investigating the natural harmonies of interacting shapes, and compositional volumes and voids. More importantly, I look for how the landscape felt, where the earth’s energy rises up from the land and meets a ready and expansive sky.
